چکیده

Abstract Mudstone characterized by typical structures and mineral assemblages in the Tamusu pre-selected area, Inner Mongolia, Northwest China, has been selected as a potential host rock for China’s high-level radioactive waste (HLW) repository purpose. Based on indications of petrological geochemical characteristics, hydrothermal sedimentary geneses are well discussed from perspectives structures, environments, model. The results show that rocks have characteristics low-temperature "white smoke" rocks. developed dry, anaerobic reducing saline lake environment with transient oxidation dry–wet evolution. 100–120 Ma tectonic activity Altun fault may main factor controlling process exhalative, which provided migration pathway water–rock reactions contributed to formation assemblages. is new kind argillaceous serves rock, will provide insights into suitability evaluations mudstone properties promote site screening area HLW disposal

The Construction and Operation of Geological Disposal Facilities for High-level Radioactive Waste and Spent Fuel

A key challenge over the next decade for some national programmes and an important learning opportunity for many others will be the construction and operation of the first deep geological repositories for High Level Waste (HLW) and Spent Fuel (SF). As the orientation of work on disposal shifts from mainly research, development and demonstration to industrial implementation, waste management age...

Geomechanical Studies on Granite Intrusions in Alxa Area for High-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal

Geological storage is an important concept for high-level radioactive waste (HLW) disposal, and detailed studies are required to protect the environment from contamination by radionuclides. This paper presents a series of geomechanical studies on the site selection for HLW disposal in the Alxa area of China. Surface investigation in the field and RQD analyses on the drill cores are carried out ...

Disposal of low-level radioactive waste.

The Act encouraged states to form regional compacts for the disposal of low-level radioactive waste (LLRW). The Act contained both positive and negative incentives. The positive incentive was a provision that allowed compacts to restrict access to their regional LLRW disposal facility to member states beginning in 1993, thus limiting the amount of waste disposed of in any state hosting a region...

Cements in Radioactive Waste Disposal

The use of cement and concrete to immobilise radioactive waste is complicated by the wideranging nature of inorganic cementing agents available as well as the range of service environments in which cement is used and the different functions expected of cement. For example, Portland cement based concretes are widely used as structural materials for construction of vaults and tunnels. These const...

Disposal of Radioactive Waste

Perhaps the most important single problem arising from the increasing use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes is how to dispose of the growing amounts of radioactive waste. Many of its complex aspects were discussed at the scientific conference on the disposal of radioactive waste held by IAEA in Monaco from 16 to 21 November 1959. The conference was organized jointly with UNESCO, with the c...
